Khardong Village Tour – Ladakh village experience with Make It Happen gives you slice of Ladakhi life in the high altitude cold desert.
The village of Khardong is in the Nubra valley about 73 kms from Leh and can be reached after crossing the world’s highest motorable road, Khardong la pass. The village is situated at around 14000 ft height above sea level. It is one of the largest villages in the Nubra and consists of about 140 families.
The village in ancient time was fortified at a place called Yuldoma where the remnants still can be seen. The name Kharzong derives from this fort (now in ruin) there by giving the name to the village.
Due to the extreme cold weather in winter the village is dry and only few trees can be seen. The monotony of the landscape is broken by the
traditionally built houses and Buddhist monuments which adorn the landscape. The principle economic activity is agriculture, growing of
Barley and Mustard through the short summer season.
