A cozy campsite by the river banks, getting a closer look at the stars, enjoying authentic Ladakhi cuisine, witnessing the pre-historic rock etchings, experiencing village life through folk tales, ancient traditions and food, visiting the ancient monasteries and heritage homes and getting insights to sustainable alternative lifestyle.

Our tour not only creates memorable travel and learning experiences, but also brings out the curious treasure hunter in you. Apart from being a very immersive tour, this experience is also curated to be community driven and involves a lot of interaction with the local communities of Ladakh while you partake and understand the traditions and lifestyle of the Ladakhis.

Day 1: Arrive in Ladakh and day at leisure to acclimatize

Arrival at the Leh airport and transfer to campsite at Chuchot Yakma.

Acclimatize to the altitude and weather while enjoying the beautiful surroundings at Indus River and the stunning view of Stok Kangri range.

Day 2: A nature walk by the river Indus and day at leisure in Uletokpo

A nature trail along river Indus to spot some local species of birds not too far from the campsite. Enjoy a delicious meal cooked by the in-house chef who has worked in Michlen Star restaurants in England and creates an innovative menu focusing on fresh locally sourced ingredients.

Drive to Uletokpo. Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 3: Witness the pre-historic rock art in Dhomkhar and experience the heritage of Alchi

Have an early morning breakfast and proceed to witness the pre-historic rock art at Dhomkhar. The place is known for artwork that was made by people of pre-historic times. There are numerous rock carved figures, thought to date back between 2000 and 4000 years.

Have lunch at Alchi Kitchen (cost not included). A warm and welcoming open Kitchen Style family restaurant run by Nilza. She has added interesting flavors to the otherwise bland Ladakhi cuisine.

Proceed for an immersive Alchi Heritage Walk around the 11th century monastery. Alchi monastery is one of the oldest in Ladakh and was built somewhere between 958 and 1055 AD by the Guru Rinchen Zangpo.

Day 4: Witness the heritage of Old Leh

Drive to Leh for an Old Leh Heritge Walk and enjoy an authentic Ladakhi meal. Walk up the narrow winding lanes of Old Leh consisting of mud houses on either side of the passage. Follow the lanes that lead all the way up to the Leh Palace which was built by King Sengge Namgyal in the 16th century.

Drive to Thiksey and rest for the night.

Day 5: Experience the morning prayers at Thiksey monastery and get introduced to the Drukpa sect of Buddhism

Thiksay Gompa or Thiksay Monastery is affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is located on top of a hill in Thiksey village.

After an early morning Buddhist prayer experience, drive to Chemrey Monastery post breakfast.

Visit the Chemrey Monastery for an orientation to Buddhism led by a historian. Chemrey Monastery or Chemrey Gompa is a 1664 Buddhist monastery and belongs to the Drugpa monastic order.

Day 6: Enjoy a spectacular drive through mountain passes to reach Nubra Valley

Post breakfast, drive to Diskit, Nubra.

The deep-cut Shayok and Nubra River Valleys offer tremendous scenery on a grand scale, with green oasis villages surrounded by thrillingly stark scree slopes, boulder fields, harsh arid mountains, spectacular sand dunes and beautiful monasteries.

Day 7: Experience the heritage of Nubra valley and witness the sand dunes of Hunder.

Post breakfast, proceed for a village walk in Sumur or Kyagar to get access to authentic village life, followed by a traditional meal.

Visit the Sand dunes in Hunder and rest for the night.

Day 8: Drive from Nubra Valley to Leh

Spend the rest of the day at leisure.

Day 9: Take a 2-hour tour of SECMOL and enjoy the rest of the day at liesure

The Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) was founded by Sonam Wangchuk in 1988 with the aim to reform the educational system of Ladakh. SECMOL Alternative School is managed and run by students, who will show you around the self- sustaining eco-friendly campus.

Day 10: Fly out to New Delhi
